It was beautiful weather in Wellington for Winetopia recently ☀ Great to see a good turnout. To catch up with a surprising number of people who were already familiar with our brand was a real pleasure. The wines were showing well and we introduced ourselves to a good number of new customers. Our Rosé was the big winner with the Cabernet Franc red coming in not far behind which was gratifying. People really enjoyed the dry, lighter Lillie’s Rosé. All in all, an excellent few days. Good also to catch up with trade. Some new listings coming up to give us some more coverage and outlets in Wellington which is great 🍷

Consumer Review – 2019 Reserve Chardonnay
Along with reviews from wine writers, we also love getting great feedback from our friends & familyHere’s a nice one about our 2019 Reserve Chardonnay, courtesy of Gideon:“What a delicious, creamy, textural, fresh, judiciously-oaked and beautifully-crafted wine this is. It represents the essence of Chardonnay, extremely full-bodied and concentrated, yet remarkably well-balanced inspite of its “bigness” …and with “John Hancock” written all over it!I suspect it will grace many-a-dinner table for probably 10-12 years, picking up wonderful tertiary nuances along the way”We invite you to share your own reviews here: bit.ly/hancock-and-sons-reviews -
Don Kavanagh Review – 2019 Reserve Chardonnay
Another great review of our 2019 Reserve Chardonnay, thanks to Don Kavanagh of Wine Searcher:“Had the 2019 Reserve Chardonnay the other night. What a piece of work it is. Elegant, restrained but still generous, lingering and altogether lovely. It’s a thing of rare beauty, well done.”We invite you to share your own reviews here: bit.ly/hancock-and-sons-reviews -
Chardonnay Update – Summer 2022
The Chardonnay is loving this Hawke’s Bay heat It’s bunch closure time out in the vineyard, just prior to veraisson where we see a sugar level increase and change in berry colour as the grapes start ripening closer to harvest.

Lillies Rosé – Cam Douglas MS
An excellent review for our 2019 Lillies Rosé by Camdouglasms.com“Distinctive and enticing bouquet of Rosé with aromas of light red berries and sweet yellow plum, hibiscus flower, a whisper of marzipan and strawberry. On the palate – crisp, fruity, refreshing and dry. There’s an ‘old world’ and ‘new world’ theme throughout the wine giving it complexity and a little mystery as well. Balanced and well made, ready to enjoy from today and through summer 2022” – 91 Points, PremiumEnjoy this wine today: bit.ly/2019-Lillies-Rose -
Barrel Work
Always great to do some barrel work in the winery. When we have a part full barrel, we regularly fill the headspace with inert CO2 (dry ice). This forces any oxygen out of the barrel and prevents oxidation and other forms of spoilage.
